Yamaha's first "large" motorcycle created to compete with the Triumphs of the day was the XS1. It became one of Yamaha's most popular streetbikes with several versions over the years eventually becoming the 650 Special.
This is the OG. It's kick start only and features drum brakes with removable plugs to introduce more cooling for "racing". They are known to be dead reliable and do not include the leaks that Triumph made famous back then. Many consider the first Yamaha 650 to be the best looking, especially in this gold color.
This particular example is remarkably original including the luxurious gold finish. There are minor imperfections like a scratch or 2 and the paint is worn off where the seat meets the tank (very common for this model). You only see this when the seat is open. Overall the pics speak for themselves. Of course, additional videos and pics are available for the asking.
In preparation for sale, our vintage specialist did the following:
This XS1 had been stored (properly) for over 20 years so the tires are old but healthy. The tank interior has some patina but no real rust. Mufflers and wheels are remarkably rust free. No real restoration needed - just needed to bring her back from a long sleep.
